Embracing Change the Healthy Way
Change is a constant part of military life. Whether it’s a permanent change of station (PCS), a promotion, or returning from deployment, transitions can bring both growth and stress.
Change and Alcohol: Know the Impact
You may start drinking or drink more during times of stress.
Alcohol can increase anxiety, impair judgement, disrupt sleep, and interfere with your ability to adapt effectively. Over time, it can work against the resilience you are trying to build.
Focusing on healthy habits and strong social connections is a much better way to support your well-being.
Four Ways to Navigate Change Using Marine Corps Total Fitness:
- Physical: Drink water, eat nutritious food, and aim for 8 hours of sleep. Stay active 3–5 times a week—even dancing, vacuuming, or playing tag with your kids counts!
- Spiritual: Spend time in nature, meditate, or simply pause to reflect on what gives your life meaning and keeps you connected to your purpose.
- Mental: Focus on a positive mantra or quote to build resilience. Use tools like the Chill Drills app for guided relaxation and stress relief.
- Social: Spend time with family, friends, and fellow Marines in person or online. Take part in local events or team sports. Check with your installation's Semper Fit and Information, Tickets, and Travel office for activities.
